Customer ratings

48W mode absolutely rips with air assist

Cutting performance is night and day vs my old 10W. With the built-in double-pump air assist, 6 mm birch ply is clean in multiple passes, and edges are way less charred.

Huge work area + linear rail = smooth results

The 800×400 bed fits my larger jigs, and the X linear guide keeps lines steady even at higher scan speeds. Alignment is repeatable after homing.

Manual focus works, but I ordered the L2

Swapping materials a lot made the manual focus a bottleneck. The L2 autofocus + flame detect looks like the right upgrade for production pace.

Plan space and ventilation

It’s a big open-frame Class 4 machine. I added an enclosure and exhaust to keep fumes out and improve safety. Worth factoring into total cost.

Solid with LightBurn, Wi-Fi unclear

USB + TF card workflow is reliable. LightBurn control of the air assist (M7) is super handy. The app is fine for simple jobs, but I wouldn’t rely on it for production.

FAQ

What are the real laser power modes on the Atomstack X40 Max?
💡
It’s a diode system with two optical power modes: 24W for fine engraving and 48W for high-power cutting. A physical button on the head toggles between modes.
What is the working area?
💡
800 × 400 mm (X × Y). This is one of the largest beds in the diode segment without an extension kit.
How fast can it run?
💡
Up to ~600 mm/s (36,000 mm/min) is the commonly cited max motion speed. Effective engraving/cutting speeds will be lower depending on material, power mode, air assist, and desired quality.
Does it include air assist?
💡
Yes. The X40 Max ships with an integrated automatic air assist (F30 Pro/Plus double-pump). It can be controlled by software (e.g., LightBurn M7).
Is autofocus included?
💡
The base unit uses manual, tool-free focusing. Full autofocus and flame detection require the optional L2 Smart Z-Axis module (40 mm travel).
Which software and file formats are supported?
💡
Works with LaserGRBL (Windows), LightBurn (Win/macOS), and Atomstack Studio. Typical formats include NC, BMP, JPG/JPEG, PNG, and DXF.
How does it differ from A40 Max and S40 Max?
💡
They are essentially the same hardware with cosmetic/frame-color differences. Treat them as variants within the same “40 Max” family.
What safety features are built in?
💡
Emergency stop, reset, X/Y limit switches, tip/tilt alarm (varies by batch), panoramic light-filtering shield on the head, and Class 4 laser labeling. Use certified eyewear and an enclosure with ventilation.
What connectivity does it have?
💡
USB for PC connection, TF (microSD) card for offline jobs, and a companion mobile app (Android/iOS). Direct PC Wi-Fi control is not guaranteed—assume USB/TF as primary.
What’s in the box?
💡
Frame profiles, linear-rail X-axis, laser module, tank (drag) chain, F30 Pro/Plus air-assist kit, fasteners/tools, focus gauge, sample acrylic/wood sheets, cable set, TF card + reader, manual.
