Safest starter engraver I’ve used

Fully enclosed, Class 1, and ready out of the box. My students can engrave wood and leather confidently without goggles (lid closed).

Dual-laser versatility in a tiny footprint

IR module gave crisp marks on stainless tags; diode handled small wood cuts. Great for personalization, but plan your workflow if you need both modules on one piece.

Small bed is the trade-off

The 110×110 mm area limits project size. I added the slide extension for simple batching—helpful but still not a large-format machine.

Beginner friendly, but learn the software

Setup was easy; Atomstack Studio is fine to start. Moved to LightBurn for better control. Manual focus arm works, just be gentle.

Great for engraving, not a cutter

Excellent engravings on leather and anodized aluminum. Cutting 3 mm acrylic took multiple slow passes—OK, but not for production. Support replied, but slowly.

FAQ

What lasers does the Atomstack P1 support?
💡
It ships with a 5W 455nm blue diode module and has an optional 1.2W 1064nm infrared (IR) module. The diode is best for organics (wood, leather, paper, dark acrylic); the IR excels at marking metals and some plastics.
Is the P1 safe to use at home or in a classroom?
💡
Yes. It’s a fully enclosed, Class 1 system with lid interlock, tilt/gyro stop, emergency stop, and a USB safety key. With the lid closed, additional laser eyewear is not required under normal use.
What’s the working area and Z-height?
💡
Diode area: ~110×110 mm. IR area: ~105×100 mm. Max processing height is about 50 mm inside the enclosure.
How fast and accurate is it?
💡
Max travel speed is around 10,000 mm/min with a CoreXY motion system. Typical motion accuracy is about 0.1 mm; real cutting/engraving speeds depend on material and settings.
Can it cut thick materials?
💡
It’s primarily an engraver. Expect thin cuts: e.g., ~3 mm basswood (single pass) and ~3 mm dark cast acrylic (multiple passes, slow speed). It will not cut metals or clear acrylic.
Does swapping between diode and IR keep perfect alignment?
💡
No. The modules are quick-swap but not parfocal/aligned. For projects that need both an IR mark and a diode cut on the same item, use a jig and test offsets to maintain registration.
Which software and connections are supported?
💡
Works with Atomstack Studio (Windows/macOS/iOS/Android) and supports LightBurn/LaserGRBL. Connectivity options include USB, Wi-Fi, and mobile hotspot.
