Exactly what I needed for safe, small projects

I bought the P1 specifically because it’s enclosed and compact. Setup took 10 minutes, and my first wood and leather engravings came out clean. It won’t cut thick materials, but for coasters, tags, and gifts it’s perfect.

Great for beginners, limited for production

As my first laser, it’s friendly and safe. But at 5W, cutting is slow and limited to thin basswood. If you plan to sell products at volume, look at a higher power machine. For learning and hobby gifts, it’s ideal.

Compact and quiet enough for my craft room

Love the small footprint and that it’s pre-assembled. Manual focus is fine once you get used to the little arm. I recommend adding a mini inline fan/duct—engraving wood still makes smoke.

Good hardware at the price, support could be better

The unit works as advertised and is safe for my home office. When I had a question about Wi-Fi setup, responses took a while. Not a dealbreaker for me, but worth noting.

The Atomstack P1 is an excellent choice for beginners prioritizing safety and affordability. Its enclosed, portable design makes it ideal for home use on small projects, though its low power and small work area limit it to hobbyist applications.

FAQ

Is the Atomstack P1 a Class 1 or Class 4 laser?
💡
The Atomstack P1 is a fully enclosed, interlocked system that is marketed as Class 1 under normal operation. The enclosure and door interlock are what make the product safe to observe without separate laser eyewear while the door is closed.
What is the actual optical power and does it have dual lasers?
💡
The standard P1 uses a 5W blue diode (≈455 nm). The Dual version adds a swappable 1.2W infrared (1064 nm) module for metal/plastic marking. The modules are used one at a time—power is not additive.
How big is the working area and can it be expanded?
💡
The effective work area is about 110 × 110 mm with the 5W diode and ~105 × 100 mm with the 1.2W IR module. The bed is not designed for expansion; this is a compact, portable engraver.
Can it cut materials, or is it engraving-only?
💡
It primarily engraves. With optimized settings, the 5W diode can cut very thin woods (e.g., ~2–3 mm basswood) and some thin craft materials using multiple slow passes and air assist. It will not cut metals and cannot cut clear/blue acrylic (blue light passes through).
Does the P1 have autofocus or a camera?
💡
No. The P1 uses manual focus via a fold-down focus bar and does not include a camera. Positioning is done in software with framing, not live camera alignment.
What software and connections are supported?
💡
You can connect via USB, Wi-Fi, or local Hotspot. It works with Atomstack’s app/software and LightBurn (license required). Offline jobs via TF/memory are supported on many bundles.
Is it suitable for classrooms or homes without special PPE?
💡
It’s designed for safety-conscious environments: enclosed chassis, door interlock, tilt/gyro stop, and a USB key lock. Normal observing through the window is intended to be safe when the door is closed. You still need good ventilation (or a small duct/fan) for smoke and odors.
