This is the first diode laser I’ve owned that feels like a real appliance. The enclosure and interlocks make it safe in my home office, and the 48W power cuts through wood I never thought a diode could handle.
The autofocus and camera sound great, but calibration was frustrating. The camera overlay was off by a centimeter until I tweaked settings in LightBurn. Once dialed in, it’s usable, but don’t expect plug-and-play.
It really does cut 20mm poplar in multiple passes and engraves stainless steel with great contrast. I haven’t mastered color engraving yet, but the potential is there. Air assist is essential for clean cuts.
The machine itself is solid, but when my air pump died after a month, Atomstack support was unresponsive. I had to source my own replacement. Be prepared to rely on community forums, not the company.
At this price, 48W in a Class 1 enclosure is unmatched. But you need patience for firmware quirks and zero expectations for warranty support. If you’re comfortable troubleshooting, it’s worth it.
The Atomstack A48 Ultra offers an impressive combination of high 48W power and Class 1 safety in a pre-assembled, enclosed unit. It's a feature-rich choice for users prioritizing safety and power on a budget, provided they are prepared to navigate potential software quirks.
